Cutter Rags was one of two last breeding sons of the great Cutter Bill He carried 100% foundation blood and was foaled and raised at Camp Stewart For Boys Inc. Cutter Rags came about when good friend of Rex Cauble�s and owner of Camp Stewart for Boys Silas B Ragsdale Jr began an interest in Quarter Horses.  Cauble gave the mare Dixie Grice to Ragsdale to better the camp riding 
program with the easy going people friendly nature of the Cutter Bill offspring.  The first foal from Dixie Grice was found to be from one of Cutter Bill�s sons at the time ���. Who was later shipped to Australia for breeding purposes.  Due to a mix up at the barn Dixie Grice had been bred to the wrong stallion, she was returned to Cauble and an aging Cutter Bill for another try.  This time a colt was foaled becoming the now Cutter Rags.  
On preparing this article I knew why Rex had suggested the Cutter Bill line but wondered why Dixie Grice, she had no show record or performance record of any sort just a sorrel mare that �had potential� until and injury had put her into broodmare status.  Knowing the vastness of Cauble�s breeding program and ideas on bloodlines I began to look further back into this mares pedigree.
Looking first to her sire and dam Hank�s Billy and Miss Grice 2 for answers.  Hanks Billy had won $275.87 in the NCHA and also had wins and points in Halter.  Miss Grice 2 winner of $423.02 in the NCHA and points in western pleasure, this was not really what I was looking for and I began to look deeper.  Back into the breeding we find Hank�s Baldy by Hank H by King.  Hank H was also named on the AQHA performance sire list at #17 all time leading broodmare sire of AQHA Champions he also had si 85 2 wins and was ROM performance �46RC.  The Dam side of this line is a mare by Polahana by Joe Hancock another big name. Hank�s Billy�s dam was Poco�s Dixie by Poco Bill by Poco Bueno by King, so we have a double cross of King.  Poco Bill�s dam was Dolly D a 1941 palomino mare with Yellow Jacket and Peter McCue lines.  Poco Dixie�s dam Dixie E by Joe 
Hancock � giving a double Joe Hancock cross. Miss Grice 2�s sire Flaxie Bob a race money earner with 3 wins was by Flying Bob with line to Peter Pan (TB).   Miss Grice 2�s dam Irene 3 dam of NCHA money earners and performance point earners was by Chuck Wagon by Chubby by 
Midnight by Badger 3. So on looking back what I first thought to be a not so great bloodline from the dam Dixie Grice turned out to be one of the better foundation stones with King x2, Joe Hancock x2, Poco Bueno, Badger 3 and Peter McCue all in the mix. So I had found the answers I was looking for.  In the article from LadyQuest farms there was also a quote from Rex Cauble and Spencer Harden on which bloodlines do you feel crossed the best with Cutter Bill?  Both Cauble and Harden 
without hesitation answered �The Royal King Mares�.  So Dixie Grice had been crossed with Cutter Bill to give use Cutter Rags because Rex knew already how well the King breeding crossed with the Cutter Bill line.  As you can also see many of the older names in Dixie Grice�s line also appear in the line of Cutter Bill, giving a stronger more potent line in Cutter Rags.
We will sadly miss Cutter Rags. He died in the fall of 2004.
